AI saved travelers an average of 7 hours when planning their summer vacations.
PHILADELPHIA, August 05, 2025—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Qlik®, a leader in data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI), recently unveiled survey findings illustrating how generative AI is quickly becoming an indispensable tool for summer travelers. This technology is not only helping vacationers discover new destinations but also enabling them to save money and effectively navigate various travel disruptions in real time.
While only 10% of travelers utilized AI tools for their summer trips this year, a significant level of trust in AI-generated recommendations has emerged.
-
Most travelers (62%) have expressed that they trust AI recommendations, with 23% completely relying on the technology for booking their trips without any further research.
-
An impressive 92% indicated that the AI-planned elements of their summer trips either met or surpassed their expectations.
-
Over half (52%) are comfortable sharing personal details and preferences with AI travel tools.
For modern travelers, AI’s role in trip planning transcends mere convenience; it unlocks novel experiences while aiding in time and cost savings.
-
Among respondents who employed AI for their trips, nearly 80% (78%) discovered new destinations they might not have found otherwise.
-
Those using AI saved an average of nearly 7 hours in planning time, with 59% reporting savings between 5 and 10 hours.
-
Approximately 19% of travelers experienced cost savings, while the majority (64%) kept their budget in check when using AI tools.
According to Qlik CEO Mike Capone, the increasing reliance on AI signifies a notable shift in decision-making processes in both personal and professional contexts. He emphasized that what’s particularly noteworthy is how generative AI facilitates better, context-rich decision making that extends beyond convenience, transforming how people plan, explore, and adapt. When technology can reveal new possibilities with clarity, it raises expectations across various domains, encouraging similar responsiveness at work where decisions demand strategic clarity.
Today’s travelers are also leveraging generative AI to manage logistical aspects and budgets in real time.
-
More than a third (38%) of travelers found AI features most beneficial for real-time travel updates regarding traffic, weather, and other potential delays.
-
AI also assisted respondents in finding restaurant recommendations (36%) and uncovering hidden attractions (35%).
-
Besides helping with itinerary planning (29%), roughly one-third (32%) utilized AI features to optimize their travel budgets.
AI Adoption Hotspots and Trends
-
Younger adults, particularly those aged 25–34, are leading the usage of AI for travel planning, being nearly seven times more likely to use such tools compared to individuals aged 55 and older (16% vs. 2%).
-
Men are more than double the likelihood of women to leverage AI for planning (14% vs. 6%).
-
Cities like San Diego (31%), Austin (21%), and San Francisco (18%) are at the forefront of AI travel planning, outpacing traditional travel websites and highlighting the tech-savvy nature of these regions.
As generative AI continues to integrate into everyday life, the travel industry emerges as a notable leader in trust. While 62% of travelers have confidence in AI-generated recommendations, other sectors still struggle with trust issues. For instance, only 27% of consumers trust AI for financial advice, while a mere 13% trust AI shopping assistants. This discrepancy underscores how perceived risks can affect technology adoption. The travel sector’s success might serve as a blueprint for instilling trust in higher-stakes domains. To learn more about leveraging AI across different sectors, visit our website.
