Saga Robotics, the innovative company renowned for its robotic platform, Thorvald, has successfully raised $11.2 million in equity capital to expand its commercial operations in the UK and US. This funding round signifies a crucial transition for the company, as it moves from initial market traction to large-scale commercial adoption.

The funding was backed by a diverse mix of new and existing investors, prominently featuring Praesidium Agri-FoodTech, a Luxembourg-based venture capital fund that specializes in scalable agtech solutions. Alongside Praesidium, returning investors include notable names such as Aker, Nysnø Climate Investments, Blystad, Hatteland, Melesio, Sanden, and MP Pensjon, all of whom demonstrate confidence in Saga Robotics’ potential.

In conjunction with this funding raise, Saga Robotics has also fortified its Board with additional industry expertise. Alongside Chair Dorn Wenninger and existing board members Atle Eide from Aker and Yvonne Silden Langlo from Nysnø, new members have been appointed to bring fresh insights. Laila Danielsen, the CEO of AI software company Elliptic Labs, and Alice Laurora of Praesidium Agri-FoodTech, who will act as an observer, are set to provide valuable perspectives.

Alice Laurora articulates the impact of Thorvald, stating, “The Thorvald robot has moved from a prototype to a fully commercially deployed autonomous solution, already servicing thousands of acres in 2025.” Her endorsement reflects a strong belief in the team, technology, and a clear path to scale within high-value, underserved agricultural sectors.

Raising Capital in Tranches

The $11.2 million funding was completed in two distinct tranches. The first tranche, amounting to $7.8 million, closed on June 23, 2025, and was oversubscribed, primarily allocated to existing investors who are already familiar with the company. The second tranche, which raised $3.4 million, closed on July 8, 2025, and targeted new investors and strategic partners who could bolster Saga’s mission.

Dorn Wenninger, the board chair, emphasized the significance of this funding round amidst a “relatively demanding capital market.” The support from existing shareholders, combined with the addition of new investors like Praesidium, validates the company’s foundation and highlights its growth pipeline.

Scaling Thorvald’s Impact

Saga Robotics intends to utilize the newly acquired capital to accelerate the rollout of Thorvald across the UK and US markets. In the UK, Thorvald currently services 13 leading strawberry growers, capturing around 20% of the national market. The goal is to expand this market share to over 30% by 2026.

Notably, during the 2025 growing season, Saga recorded its first commercial revenue from its innovative yield prediction data tool, underscoring the company’s unique position to capitalize on the data amassed from the robotic platform’s operations over extensive acreages.

In the US, Thorvald has already made substantial strides, operating on over 1,300 acres of vineyards with plans to triple its footprint by 2026. The platform’s inclusion in California’s CORE incentive program, which offers significant grants for robot sales, is another critical factor in its anticipated expansion.

To date, more than 150 Thorvald 3.0 units are actively operating in the field during the 2025 growing season. “We’ve proven Thorvald works, now we’re scaling it,” says founder Pål Johan From, who has recently moved to California to spearhead operations in the US.

From emphasizes that this funding will provide the runway necessary to enhance adoption, improve agricultural efficiency, and reduce chemical usage in two of the world’s most chemically dependent specialty crop markets.

CEO Sacha de La Noë echoed this optimism, stating, “When I joined Saga Robotics, the potential was clear, and this level of investor interest confirms it.” With Pål leading the expansion in the US and the company gaining traction in the UK, Saga Robotics is poised to enter a new phase focused on scale and impact, not merely gaining ground but accelerating its influence in the agricultural technology sector.
