Experts: Businesses Should Focus on Understanding AI Over Following Trends

Share

This insight was shared at the “Technology Trends and Future Investment Vision” conference, which took place on the second day of the Super Vietnam 2025 week on June 5. Despite the hot weather, many attendees lined up early to check in at the Ariyana Da Nang International Convention Center to participate in the event.

How to Operate AI Effectively

At the start of the second session, experts emphasized that businesses should not just rush into adopting trends; first and foremost, they need to understand what AI is and how it can be tailored to solve specific challenges within their operational frameworks. William H. Nguyen, CEO of Quickom, underscored this point, stating, “If businesses don’t grasp AI’s nature, they may end up making poor tool choices and developing unrealistic expectations.” It’s a call for companies to slow down and think strategically about their AI investments.

Building on this, Tuan Anh Nguyen, CEO of Alpha Asimov Robotics, concurred. He urged businesses to move beyond manual task handling towards designing processes that incorporate AI. “Successful AI application is not about replacing humans,” he noted, “but rather reorganizing workflows to enhance AI’s supportive role.” This insight ushers in a shift in mindset—AI should complement human skills, driving efficiency rather than displacing jobs.

Khuat Thanh Tung, senior advisor at Nexira, added another layer to the discussion. He posited that businesses should align their AI initiatives with long-term strategic goals. “It’s not about competing with technology,” he emphasized, “but about finding AI solutions that fit a company’s culture and developmental point.” This alignment is crucial to ensure that AI implementations are not only functional but resonate with the overall business ethos.

The panel discussion featured other notable figures such as Dr. Tran Minh Tung, Nguyen Tuan Anh, William H. Nguyen, along with Henry Thai Quang, CTO of Viet Digital Investment Joint Stock Company (VDI). They collectively highlighted the need for businesses to ascertain their current standing in the AI application journey. This ranges from their data infrastructure to how transparent their operations are.

VDI’s CTO highlighted the importance of delineating responsibilities across three distinct layers: leadership, strategy, and operations. This clarity is paramount to mitigate confusion during AI implementation, which can often be a convoluted process in organizations.

As businesses embark on their AI journey, it’s crucial that they define clear KPIs and conduct periodic assessments. An ecosystem of partners should also be established to promote smooth and effective AI integration. Henry Thai Quang emphasized the need for robust data infrastructure from the outset and the importance of investing in personnel skilled in both technology and business models. “AI is only valuable when it serves practical goals,” he stressed, underlining the necessity for a grounded approach.

Data Security in AI and Blockchain

Transitioning to the topic of data security, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dinh Thuc, Head of the Department of Knowledge Technology at the University of Science – VNU-HCM, emphasized that establishing clear standards for transactions is essential for effective security measures. However, the absence of synchronization across platforms has led to “blind spots” in data security, particularly within decentralized systems.

Experts present at the conference called for unified and transparent security mechanisms, highlighting the critical importance of standards, privacy rights, and legal frameworks designed to safeguard personal data. In an age where information breaches are increasingly common, this call is both timely and essential.

Dr. Nam Ngo, head of research at the Ethereum Foundation, further emphasized the necessity of implementing two-way verification mechanisms for data sharing. This ensures not only the privacy of data but also appropriate usage of the information in question. He argues that these mechanisms can only be effective when they are framed within a transparent and adaptable legal structure.

During the session, both Jaehyun Ha, Head of Research Analysis at Presto Labs, and Vince Chew, COO at Evvo Labs Pte Ltd., reiterated that accountability and privacy should evolve together, forming the backbone of trust and transparency within the digital ecosystem. They posited that decentralized security models will only flourish when there’s strong coordination among governments, academic institutions, and businesses in defining common security standards.

R&D: Foundation for Vietnam’s Technology Future

Another panel, “Focus on R&D: The Driving Force for Vietnam’s Technology Future,” featured several prominent figures, including Dr. Nguyen Quang Vu from Vietnam-Korea University, Dr. Nguyen Quang Thanh, former Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Da Nang, Dr. Nam Ngo, and others. The panel gained significant attention as it delved into the pivotal role of R&D in fostering Vietnam’s domestic technology ecosystem.

Dr. Nguyen Quang Thanh highlighted that Vietnam has initiated four major resolutions related to technology development that emphasize human resources. These resolutions aim to cultivate a semiconductor ecosystem and draw international technology corporations to establish a presence in Vietnam.

From a business angle, Thanh Nguyen from VNG pointed out that, in addition to attracting external investment and technology, Vietnam must adopt a more proactive approach by observing and testing new technologies. “We once collaborated with a partner on a large AI system in late 2023,” he reflected. “In the implementation phase, we discovered significant discrepancies in network architecture and tools. This highlights the necessity for adaptability as new technologies often come with scant documentation.”

Dung, another panelist, proposed fostering team cohesion and external exchanges to retain and attract talented engineers and researchers. This aspect of talent management is crucial for maintaining a strong competitive edge in technology.

Dr. Thanh wrapped up the discussion by underscoring four critical success factors: strategic leadership, development of human resources, international integration, and unwavering commitment to implementation. The consensus among the experts was clear: businesses that neglect to embrace AI risk losing relevance in an automated, data-driven market. However, effectively leveraging AI necessitates more than just technological adoption; it requires visionary leadership, suitable infrastructure, qualified personnel, and a culture of innovation.
