The Microfactory Model

These facilities specialize in constructing a variety of missing-middle housing options, including single-family homes, duplexes, townhomes, and small multifamily dwellings. With its network of automated microfactories powered by Physical AI and robotics, Reframe ensures that housing projects are delivered on time and within budget, making affordability a consistent outcome.
Mass Customization at Scale
Reframe Systems applies principles similar to those that revolutionized e-commerce fulfillment. Unlike conventional construction methods, Reframe’s AI-driven regional microfactories can be operational within just 100 days. Each microfactory is capable of producing five single-family homes per week, offering mass customization tailored to local conditions and regulations through Reframe’s proprietary software.
This involves automating essential tasks such as framing, sheathing, and insulation with advanced vision-guided robots. The process also assists apprentices and builders with material marking and detailed digital instructions, effectively bridging the gap between technology and hands-on labor.

The resulting homes not only meet local zoning laws but also boast characteristics such as all-electric capabilities, solar readiness, and adherence to stringent fire-resilience codes. Currently, Reframe is making significant strides in the Boston area, with two three-story homes underway in Somerville as part of its vision for urban housing. In total, the company aims to deliver 20 housing units across various multi-family and single-family projects in Massachusetts and California. Their next target is a microfactory in Southern California, addressing both the region’s ongoing housing shortages and the aftermath of recent wildfires.
